The Vatican has fined a retired archbishop for covering up sexual abuse
The Vatican has punished the former archbishop of Wroclaw for failing to take allegations of sexual abuse in the Church seriously, barring him from attending public, religious and secular ceremonies.
The news about the sentencing of the retired archbishop, Marijan Golebievski, was announced today by the Archdiocese of Wroclaw.
The archdiocese said the Vatican had questioned its failure to believe allegations of sexual harassment from 1996 to 2013.
Archbishop Golembievski (83) was ordered to "live in the spirit of repentance and prayer." He is barred from participating in any public ceremonies and is ordered to pay an "appropriate amount" to assist victims of abuse. is stated in the announcement of the Archdiocese.
This is a new case of alleged sexual abuse or cover-up in predominantly Catholic Poland.
The Vatican in March this year for the same reason punished the former archbishop of Gdansk, expelling him from the territory of the archdiocese.
