Washington welcomed the Ohrid agreement
The United States welcomes the agreement that Kosovo and Serbia reached in Ohrid with the mediation of the EU for the implementation of the Agreement on the Road to Normalization of Relations, the State Department announced.
"We commend the President of Serbia and the Prime Minister of Kosovo for their leadership in reaching an agreement. The fulfillment of the obligations of Kosovo and Serbia from the Basic Agreement, within the framework of the permanent commitment to reconciliation, will provide significant opportunities for the citizens of both countries and to accelerate their path to membership in the European Union," said the statement of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
The statement added that the United States will continue to be actively engaged, in cooperation with EU partners, "to support Kosovo and Serbia in their implementation work to achieve predictable and peaceful relations."
"We will continue to support the improvement of stability and prosperity in the Western Balkans."
In the announcement, he thanked the European Union for mediating the negotiations and the Government of North Macedonia for hosting and supporting the finalization of the agreement.
Blinken also said on his Twitter account that he welcomes the agreement. He added that the United States remains "committed to advancing European and Euro-Atlantic integration."
