On whether Macedonia will get a decision to start negotiations in June, EU Commissioner Varhelj said that it is a difficult issue, that we must work hard and we have not yet reached that goal. He stressed that if no agreement is reached on negotiations with Macedonia, the issue of secession of Albania will be opened.

For his position not to dramatize and that Macedonia should respond to the Bulgarian demands expressed before the European Parliament, is he still behind it, Varhelj said:

- It is difficult not to talk about a veto drama. The veto is a drama in itself. What we are doing now is to return to normalcy as soon as possible, and that is to reach an agreement between the two countries, which means scheduling the first intergovernmental conference between Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia. We are working on that now, he said.

The Austrian guest also called for an agreement on Austria's position on Macedonia's negotiations.

- The Western Balkans deserves a credible European perspective, especially Northern Macedonia. I hope that the blockade of Bulgaria will be lifted and that Macedonia will remain at the negotiating table, as well as the other side. We will fight during the Austrian presidency in the second half of the year, we will support both sides, Northern Macedonia because it did a lot, but also the other side, because we are part of the EU and we support the member states. We must not waste time and lose this momentum. The Western Balkans are very important for the EU from a security point of view and I hope that all countries will remain at the negotiating table, said the Austrian minister.
