Vangelov: Solution with Bulgaria is possible, but hate speech and provocations from Sofia must stop

The political scientist Ognen Vangelov, who is a member of the Joint Commission for Historical and Educational Issues between Macedonia and Bulgaria, in interview for "Makfax" says that the work of the Commission has been stalled for a long time. The stalemate, as he explains, follows the decision of Bulgaria to veto the start of Macedonia's negotiations with the EU and that, as he explained, was directly reflected in the work of the Commission.

"We differ in our understanding of what the term 'common history' means, and we do not agree here, and we probably will not agree in the future either. "That is the basis of the stalemate in the Commission," Vangelov stressed.

He estimates that any solution can be reached between the two countries, but in a more relaxed atmosphere.

"When the atmosphere heats up, and most often it heats up from that side, not most often, but exclusively all political statements that contain elements of hatred, of provocations, come exclusively from the Bulgarian side, we speak institutionally. "And they say that there is hate speech here and that Macedonia must prevent hate speech against Bulgaria," Vangelov said.

The political scientist says that it is not so difficult to find a solution to the problems that are discussed on the table, but the problem is the politicization of those solutions.

"Radev continuously makes statements that are not only provocative but also offensive and sometimes contain hate speech. It is an institutionalized hate speech coming from Bulgaria from the highest state officials. "The appropriate institutions should respond to that, and we, as members of the Commission, stick to what is our task and is within our competencies," Vangelov said.
