Van der Bellen: Constitutional amendments should not be dramatized

Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen, who is on an official visit to Macedonia, said that it is necessary to make constitutional amendments in order to continue the process of European integration of the country, and the road, as he said, is difficult.

- We are convinced that you will succeed in making the constitutional amendments. It is necessary to look forward, to work towards a common European future. I know that this is a difficult road for you, the frustration is understandable, but please do not lose sight of the goal, said Van der Bellen at the joint press conference with President Stevo Pendarovski.

Answering a journalist's question about whether Austria will get involved in European diplomacy to convince VMRO-DPMNE to change its mind about the constitutional amendments, he said that he did not want to talk about internal political issues, but he announced what he would say before the members of the Macedonian Parliament.

- I will give a speech in the Parliament and I will ask all parliamentary groups to think long-term about the risk. This step should not be dramatized, said the Austrian president.
