"Macedonia as a society has survived a lot, but learned very little," financial expert Zoran Jovanovski and vice president of the Chamber of Commerce told the Utrinski briefing, referring to the economic trends in the country that are difficult to change.

"Unlike other countries that emerged from the former SFRY, we failed to make a long-term development strategy, we failed to agree on our strategic goal that will be pursued regardless of who is in power," Jovanovski told Utrinski briefing.

Our failure is, as Jovanovski says, that we failed to follow the old rule that each generation is obliged to create a better starting point for the next. One example of this is the gap between the economy and education that has been going on for 30 years.

- We have a situation when we have hyperinflation of diplomas that can not be valorized and monetized, and on the other hand the economy is facing a shortage of appropriate staff. That is why it is good that it is being introduced dual education. This means that young people know while they are studying that when they finish school they will have a job, which in turn gives some security and stability, says Jovanovski for Utrinski briefing.

He emphasizes that it is necessary to turn to the so-called green economy although it is expensive for small economies like ours. It is very important and the world trend is not to go for more growth at any cost. The costs for green economic projects should be predicted in advance for the project to be economically viable, says Jovanovski and adds that in the long run this is the only way because financiers no longer want to finance projects that rely on fossil fuels.
