The goal of the project is insight into the current state of the church buildings, mapping of their location and availability, for which professional interventions and accompanying interventions will subsequently be implemented.

The project was implemented at the initiative of ICOMOS Macedonia, together with the cooperation of MOC-OA, financed by the US Embassy.

The task of the experts from the teams is to determine the state of the church buildings that are the subject of processing, including the architectural design of the church buildings, the iconostasis, painting and the rest of the church inventory, all with the aim of successfully sublimating the complexity of the project. In the current year 2022, team number 4 successfully carried out the inspection that was planned in the Kumanovo-Osogovo diocese, where in the next one the field inspection of the church buildings in the Tetovo-Gostivar diocese is planned, on the same principle of implementation, said Valentina Ilijevska, fine artist, conservator and restorer, external associate of MOC-OA.

In addition to Ilijevska, the expert team also includes representatives and experts from the field of architecture and construction, fine arts and art history, team leader, Cvetanka Hadji-Pecova, architect and representative from NCC-Skopje together with Mirjana M. Mashnic art historian, Filip Manojlovski civil engineer at IZIIS.

We thank them for the successful communication and cooperation so far, above all with the clergy who selflessly came forward to overcome the passability of the terrain during the inspection, but not leaving out the local population, as well as the church board, who were cordial and hospitable to the team , said Ilijevska.

The project began with a ceremonial opening and address, as well as a conference with familiarization with the content of the project on May 5, 2022 in the monastery complex "St. George" in Nerezi, ICOMOS Macedonia, headed by President Kristina Biceva, as the holder of the project "Monitoring of the Orthodox Cultural Heritage ” together with the experts and its members who are organized in teams, for easier implementation of the project, which is planned to be carried out during 2022 and 2023.
