More than five million children from Ukraine need humanitarian aid due to the war in the country, he claims UNICEF.

In Ukraine itself, about three million children need support after the Russian invasion. An estimated 2.2 million minors fleeing the conflict to other countries are also in need of humanitarian assistance, according to a statement from the United Nations Children's Fund today.

According to the organization, at least 262 children were killed since the start of the war, on February 24, while hundreds of schools have been damaged.

Today is celebrated International Child Protection Day.

- Instead of celebrating, we are approaching June 3 - the hundredth day of the war, which destroyed the lives of millions of children. Without an immediate ceasefire and a negotiated peace, the youngest will continue to suffer and the effects of the war will affect vulnerable children around the world, said UNICEF Director Catherine Russell.
