Hungary is closing stadiums, libraries, theaters, swimming pools this winter due to rising prices
A drastic rise in energy prices has forced Hungary to close libraries, theatres, swimming pools and its new stadiums over the winter.
The new stadiums, who are they are considered symbols of the power of right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who has been in power for 12 years years, are the last in the long list of facilities that can no longer be carried with the increase in energy prices.
Székesfehérvár, one of Hungary's richest cities, where members of Orbán's party are in power, is one of many to close its museums, libraries and theaters during the winter. Mayor András Cher-Palković announced that the new stadium, which can accommodate 14.000 spectators, will be closed this month due to cost savings.
– Public spaces are what make a city. Nobody is happy about these measures, but people accept that they are necessary, said Cer-Palković, a member of Orbán's ruling Fidesz party.
