Artists Zhmijevski and Althamer enrich the art collection of MSU

For the fourth day in a row, the European artistic tandem Artur Zmijevski and Pavel Althamer create new works in the space of the Museum of Contemporary Art - Skopje. It is exciting to witness their collaborative work process, entitled "Open Studio", MSU points out. The curator of the project is Vladimir Janchevski.

During these two weeks, Polish artists will create about 30 artistic paintings on cardboard with acrylic paint and collages from old history books, maps, charts, atlases, posters, educational charts... Visitors are welcome to bring some of these materials, and thereby contributing to the creation of works.

On July 14, their exhibition will be opened at MSU, with these created works, titled "Polish School of Collage", which will be displayed until August 25, 2022.

It is a great curiosity that they will give some of the works to the Museum and thereby enrich the valuable collection. With this gesture, the donation of works by world-famous authors is re-actualized.

The role of Poland in the creation of the MSU facility is invaluable. MSU is a symbol of Skopje's solidarity, when after the catastrophic earthquake in 1963, the United Nations adopted a resolution stating that not only material aid is important, but also culture to lift the spirits of the victims. It was this resolution and the decision of the world congress of artists in New York that called on all the world's artists to donate their works to the destroyed Skopje and to lay the foundations of the new building.

At the announced competition, the first prize goes to the famous architectural studio "Tigris" from Poland. The Government of Poland donated this project to Skopje as a sign of solidarity, and today MSU has over 200 art donations from Polish artists (212 works from 135 artists) in its collection, among other important works. Considering that the previous donations are from the period 1964-1990, Zhmijevski and Althamer continue the series of donations with contemporary works, informs from MSU.

On July 8 and 12, at 20 p.m., curator Bojana Janeva will organize night tours around MSU - Skopje, where visitors, in addition to being able to view the current exhibitions, will also have the rare opportunity to witness Zhmijevski's creative work with a personal guide. and Althammer.

Last year, Zhmijevski had a large independent exhibition for the first time in MSU - Skopje. This presentation followed his participation in the international group exhibition "Everything we have in common" in 2019 at the museum. Another exclusivity is that this will be the first presentation of Pavel Althamer in Skopje.
