The artistic tandem Zhmijevski and Althamer donated ten works to MSU - Skopje

Polish artists Artur Zmijewski and Pavel Althamer, who were exclusive guests at the Museum of Contemporary Art - Skopje last summer, donated ten works made in combined technique.

It was exciting to witness their collaborative work process – "Open Studio" in which artists created works in front of the public for two weeks, and then their solo exhibition "Polish School of Collage" was opened. The curator of the project was Vladimir Janchevski - news from MSU - Skopje.

The role of Poland in the creation of the MSU facility is invaluable. MSU is a symbol of Skopje's solidarity, when after the catastrophic earthquake in 1963, the United Nations passed a resolution stating that not only material aid is important, but also culture to lift the spirit of people. With that resolution and the decision of the World Congress of Artists in New York, all world artists were called to donate their works to the destroyed Skopje and to lay the foundations of the new building.

At the announced competition, the first prize goes to the famous architectural studio "Tigri" from Poland. The Government of Poland donated this project to Skopje as a sign of solidarity, and today MSU has in its collection, among other important works, over 200 art donations from Polish artists (212 works from 135 artists).

Given that the donations so far are from the period 1964-1990, one of the most significant European artists of their generation, Zhmijewski and Althamer continue the series of donations with contemporary works, the MSU announced.
