A petition to grant outgoing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson Ukrainian citizenship has garnered over 2,500 signatures just hours after it was posted on Ukraine's official petition site, reports Reuters.

Although his popularity in Britain bottomed out, eventually resulting in his resignation, Johnson remained quite popular in Kyiv. According to many, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, he is the leader who most advocated to help Ukraine in its fight against Russia, the agency writes.

Drawings, murals, even cakes with his image can be seen on the streets of Kyiv, which only confirms the support that Johnson has in Ukraine. Some Ukrainians call it "Johnsonyuk".

The petition, submitted to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, describes Johnson's strengths as "globally supported, a man who opposes Russia's invasion of Ukraine and wise in politics, finance and law."

Yesterday, Johnson awarded Zelensky the "Sir Winston Churchill" award, for his "incredible courage" in the war against Russia.
