Since the Russian attack on Ukraine a year ago, Ukrainian courts have so far convicted 26 suspects and filed charges against nearly 300 people, Myroslava Krasnoborova, the Ukrainian prosecutor who coordinates war crimes cases in The Hague, said today.

British media quotes Krasnoborova as saying that the 26 people were convicted of crimes, including rape, murder, shelling of residential buildings, brutal treatment of civilians and robbery....

-Since February 24 last year, Ukraine has so far registered more than 71.000 alleged war crimes, she said.

"The cruelty and destruction caused by Russia is colossal and endless," Krasnoborova said.

According to her, millions of Ukrainians in this one year were forced to leave everything behind and leave their homes.

"Mass rocket attacks destroy civilian infrastructure and many have tragically lost their lives," she said.

Krasnoborova stated that what was done cannot be undone, but what can be done is to bring those responsible to justice.

- So far, a total of 296 people have been accused of war crimes, and Ukrainian courts are currently working on 99 cases, she added.

Russia denies that it committed war crimes and that civilians were its targets.
