Ukraine declares national air alert

Ukrainian authorities declared a national air alert this morning as Russian cruise missiles threatened several parts of the country.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported on Telegram about missiles flying towards Kryvyi Rih, the birthplace of President Volodymyr Zelensky in central Ukraine, as well as towards the Chernihiv, Poltava and Mykolaiv regions.

It added that "a group of cruise missiles heading towards Kiev has also been detected."

Ukraine said last night that it had carried out its "largest" attack on military and industrial facilities in several Russian regions since the start of the war.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the attack was carried out with six American ATAKMS missiles and six British Storm Shadow missiles. The ministry said all the shells were shot down without causing casualties.

Russia has vowed a systematic response to any attack on its territory by Western missiles. Moscow has threatened to use its new experimental hypersonic Oreshnik missile.
