Ukraine requires equipment to protect against nuclear threat
The European Union is sending equipment to Ukraine that specializes in public health risks, such as chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats, the European Commission has said.
The commission says the aid includes 300.000 specialized protective suits, 5.600 liters of decontamination equipment and 850 pieces of equipment for decontamination operations, and the delivery comes at the specific request of the Ukrainian government.
"Medical equipment and equipment adapted to chemical, biological or nuclear emergencies are on their way to Ukraine. "Hospitals and medical workers in Ukraine are working under fire and we must do everything in our power to provide them with the necessary life-saving equipment," said EU Commissioner Janez Lenarcic.
Brussels says the total value of the donation is more than 11m euros, and aid to Ukraine will be delivered from EU emergency supplies stored in Romania, Hungary, Sweden, Germany, Greece and Denmark.
