Ecuadorian sprinter Alex Quinones was killed near his team in Guayaquil. Quinonez was 32 years old when he was killed by unknown individuals while walking with a friend in front of a shopping mall in Guayaquil.

Quinonez's death was also confirmed by Roberto Ibanez, president of the Ecuadorian Athletics Federation.
"My heart is broken by pain, I can not describe the emptiness I feel," Ibanez wrote on Twitter.

Quinonez competed in the 100 and 200 meters and competed in the 2012 London Olympics when he set a national record in the 200 meters and finished seventh in the final.
He achieved his greatest success at the 2019 World Cup in Qatar when he won the bronze medal in the 200 meters.

He also secured a place in the Tokyo Games, but was not allowed to play because he skipped doping control.
