The killer of the woman from Kočani, suspected of femicide, remains in custody for 30 days

The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office Kočani issued an Order to conduct an investigative procedure against a person due to reasonable suspicion that he committed a crime - Murder according to Article 123 paragraph 2 point 1 of the Criminal Code.

- The suspect, on September 25, in a ferocious manner took the life of a woman, stabbing her numerous times. He took a kitchen knife from home and, knowing the path the victim takes when she goes to work, he met her and inflicted multiple stab wounds on her chest, stomach, neck and hands. The victim died on the spot from the injuries, the Public Prosecutor's Office said.

The public prosecutor submitted to the judge of the preliminary procedure from the Basic Court in Kočani a proposal for determining the measure of detention for the suspect. The judge accepted the proposal and ordered him to be detained for 30 days.

Qualified forms of murder regulated by Article 123 paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code provide for a prison sentence of at least 20 years or life imprisonment, and point 1 refers to "deprivation of life of a woman or girl up to 18 years of age, during gender-based violence" .

This year, in the first quarter, 3 cases of femicide were registered, while in August, a man from Kumanovo killed his wife with a knife, and then her mother, after which she threw herself from a window and died in the hospital.

In the past 4 years, that is, in the period 2018-2022, there have been 17 cases of femicide, and 19 women were killed.
