Two police officers were arrested - "moles" of the group from Grcec
By providing information, the two investigators made it difficult to prove five criminal proceedings, including the "Mountain" operation, which was conducted for a year, but failed, so no member of the group was arrested.
Two retired inspectors are suspected of collaborating with the criminal group "Dukanjik" from the village of Grcec, led by Shevalj Muaremi, who is on the run. In an action by the police in coordination with a prosecutor from the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office for Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption (OJOGOCK), three people were arrested - two inspectors and one of the members of the "Grcec" group.
According to information from the Prosecutor's Office, the two former chief inspectors for property crimes, i.e. illegal drug trade, connected with the leader of the Muaremi group and through one of the members of the group, who was also arrested in the previous night's police operation, collected, transferred and shared information about the criminal proceedings that were conducted against the group.
- The suspects, out of self-interest, connected with the organized criminal group "Ducanjik" from the village of Grcec and as members with a special role, motivated by the first suspect in the "Grcec" case, transmitted official information. During the mentioned period, the suspects, two of whom were former chief inspectors for property crimes, i.e. illegal drug trade, through the third suspect for the criminal group, obtained, transmitted and shared information about procedures that are important for public safety, as well as about security and intelligence activities of the state authorities. For such unauthorized disclosure, which caused damage to the work and efficiency of the investigative and law enforcement authorities and made it difficult or impossible to secure the evidence, the suspects received a reward," OJOGOKK said.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the two investigators, by providing information, made it difficult to prove five criminal proceedings, including the "Mountain" operation, which was conducted for a year, but failed, so no member of the group was arrested.
In particular, they provided information about an event that took place in December 2019, in which the criminal group threatened a victim of an attempted murder to change his statement to the police, who was then killed. They also gave information about a murder that happened in August 2020, and in the same year they told the criminal group that special investigative measures were being applied against them.
- During the second half of 2020, the suspects shared official information about the application of special investigative measures for the then-current criminal investigation under the code name "Mountain", which included persons from this organized group, for a criminal-legal event that took place in September 2020 year in which five people were suspected of the crime of "kidnapping", information was transmitted about the secured evidence and witness statements of detained persons, for the double murder from March 2021 in Skopje, for which information was transmitted about who is detained in the police station, what activities are being undertaken and which officials are involved in the criminal investigation - the Prosecutor's Office explains.
Material evidence has also been provided that one of the inspectors got rich disproportionately with the salary he received. He and his family members own real and movable property and savings deposits. The suspects have been brought before a judge for preliminary proceedings, and the Prosecutor's Office is requesting their detention.
Shortly before the formation of the technical government, when Oliver Spasovski was still the Minister of the Interior, criminal charges were filed against a 15-member criminal group, but only five ended up in custody and only they are on trial.
Spasovski announced even then that the investigation established that employees of the Ministry of the Interior, ministries, courts and public prosecutions were connected to the group. The gang from Grcec is accused of smuggling cocaine and being involved in murders and attempted murders. According to unofficial information, the leader of the Muaremi group is in Dubai and an international warrant has been issued for him.
