The Turkish parliament has approved Finland's entry into NATO
Turkey's parliament last night ratified a decision allowing Finland to join NATO, paving the way for Helsinki to join the alliance as the war in Ukraine rages, British media reported.
Turkey's parliament was the last of the alliance's 30 members to ratify Finland's membership, after the Hungarian legislature did so earlier this week.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier this month that Finland had secured Turkey's favor after taking concrete steps to keep promises to crack down on groups Ankara considers terrorists and free exports of military goods.
Finland and Sweden applied last year to join the transatlantic military alliance in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but the process was blocked by Turkey and Hungary. The parliaments of all NATO members must ratify new members.
Turkey, on the other hand, is still delaying the approval of Sweden's candidacy for NATO membership.
