The Turkish military company Baykar, manufacturer of the Bayraktar TB2 attack drone, is already in the process of building a factory at an unknown location on Ukrainian territory for the production of drones, the Ukrainian ambassador to Turkey said.

Baykar has established a subsidiary in Ukraine, and the planned facility is said to have been under construction even before the start of the war. Ambassador Vasiliy Bodnara confirmed for "Newsweek" that Baykar will continue in this direction.

"The factory will be built. Just a week ago, the Ukrainian government approved the bilateral agreement and sent it to the parliament for ratification. It is about a contract for the construction of the factory itself," said the diplomat. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that the plant, if built, would be a clear military target for the Russian military, adding: "The very fact of creating such a facility, which will certainly be our immediate target, will only prolong the suffering of Ukrainians, but they will not help avoid what is the purpose of the special military operation," he said, as quoted by Sputnik.

Turkey, within its complex relationship of "competitive cooperation" with Russia, tries to maintain strong relations with Moscow and Kyiv. However, the company "Bajkar" clearly took a side, and it is also interesting that the owner of the company maintains good relations with Erdogan. The sale of TB2 drones to Ukraine has already angered Russia, and the drones themselves proved effective early in the war. There are indications that Turkey delivered Kirpi 4×4 armored vehicles to Ukraine this month.

According to the ambassador, Baykar bought land in Ukraine for a planned drone factory. "The decision to build a factory in Ukraine was not only political, but also practical, because a significant part of the models that will be produced in this factory will have Ukrainian-made components," added Bodnar. "It can be engines, other spare parts, wheels, many different things that are done here at a high level and can be used for these planes," the ambassador said, adding that the field of defense technology is "one of the drivers." on the relations between Turkey and Ukraine. "Despite the war, our companies continue to fulfill their obligations," he said, adding that Turkish drones "have already become a symbol of our resistance."
