A similar tactic was once used by the Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, who beat Novak Djokovic four times at the Grand Slam tournaments.

Danil Medvedev achieved something that no one else did this year, he defeated Djokovic at the Grand Slam and prevented him from making history and becoming the most trophy-winning Grand Slam champion and the first man to complete a calendar grand slam since Rod Laver in 1969.

Medvedev was cooler, spending five hours less on the field from Novak to the US Open final. and there was much more time to rest after the semifinals, which of course affected the outcome of the final.

It was obvious that the Serbian ace was not physically at the highest level, but he was additionally hit by the great play of the Russian who served incredibly well and accurately, with great risk on the second serve, which was often as fast as the first.

Medvedev had serious preparations for this final, and he had a great lesson from the final this year at the "Australian Open", where with 3: 0 in sets he was defeated by Nole.

After that, he learned lessons with his coach Jill Servar who revealed what the preparation for the final in New York (USA) against Djokovic looked like.

Medvedev: Djokovic is the best in the history of tennis for me

- After the final in Melbourne, we had the impression that Danil did not have that inner "fire" to show that he showed his game to be stronger, especially against players like Novak. That was something that had to change in this final to take it to a higher level. Our feeling was that Danil was ready to compete in his best edition. I would say that the key to everything was in the psychological part, in the energy - said the coach of the Russian tennis player.

He later revealed that the plan was Medvedev to attack Novak in the middle of the field as much as possible, because it is a tactic that does not suit him, when he moves back and forth, instead of left-right when the corners of the field are hit, something that the Serb likes more. Such tactics were once used by Stanislas Wawrinka, who beat Novak four times at the Grand Slam.

- As for the game, we had several strategies. Especially to play more towards the middle. Do not open too much corner and run a lot from side to side. This is not magic. It is easy to say, but not easy to put into practice. You have to play at the highest level and have quality in the shots. It should also be borne in mind that this strategy may change during the match, as Novak would adapt. You need to be careful to know what to do at all times. Danil had several strategies for different situations. Good service was one of the key segments and he served phenomenally - says Servar.
