The Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Jovanka Trenchevska During his visit to the Municipality of Berovo, he visited social protection institutions under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.

Together with the Mayor of the Municipality of Berovo, Zvonko Pekevski and the former minister Jagoda Shahpaska, visited the Home for the Elderly Dr. Ivan Vlashki - Berovo where currently 37 users are accommodated. The capacity of the home was expanded by 10 beds in 2021 with the opening of the third lamella. Services offered by the home are accommodation to full residence, nutrition, medical care, day care, psycho-social activities, organization of cultural - entertainment life, provision of other additional services provided by the home. The construction of a kitchen is in progress, which will improve the services of the users themselves. Due to the great interest and the real need of the elderly for home care, we have made a project for a facility - a fourth lamella that would increase the capacity by another 28 beds.

Dr. Ivan Vlashki is a licensed provider of home care and care services, and the service is received by 69 users, by 18 caregivers. The service provides assistance in performing basic activities of daily life, for people with reduced functional capacity who can not take care of themselves, in order to continue living in their own home.

"Caring for vulnerable categories of citizens, including the elderly is high on the agenda of the Government of the Republic of Northern Macedonia and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy. "By promoting the rights and services arising from the social protection system, we provide greater care and satisfaction of the needs of the oldest citizens in our country," said Trencevska.

Minister Trenchevska also visited the small group home in Berovo, opened in 2009 as an organizational unit of the Inter-Municipal Center for Social Work Berovo and which accommodates children without parents and parental care. He is the first of its kind in our country. At the moment, he takes care of four children, and they are taken care of by a team of 3 professionals (educators) and two caregivers.

The small group home in Berovo functions as a children's home with their educators and caregivers, in the form of a family environment, and provides adequate quality care for children outside their biological families. The ultimate goal of working with children from a small group home is to build a socially useful person who will be fully socialized and integrated into the social flows of modern living. The small group home in Berovo is a success story for children without parents and parental care.

The visit to Berovo was completed with a meeting with the staff of the Center for Social Affairs, which was also an opportunity to talk about the rights and services of social protection, and their successful delivery to those citizens who need support.
