Trump: "I am your revenge"
What will Trump's victory mean for Macedonia? That question cannot be answered if the focus is placed only on our country. Why? Because we are too small and unimportant.
With the slogan "I am your revenge", Donald Trump won the elections in America. The discontent of the masses with the domestic and foreign policies of the "establishment" launched the Republican candidate for the most powerful political office in America and the world. Rude Trump defeated polite Harris in another mass revolt. How much it is justified and how much it is unjustified is a matter of further analysis.
And while Kamala Harris's Democrats, well-intentioned tolerant people with college degrees, treated voters like missionaries who preached they would help them emancipate and emulate them, says David Axelrod, a former adviser to President Barack Obama, Trump's Republicans are identified with the common man, and the presidential candidate also expresses himself in the language of that common man. Often with curses. So while Democrats talk about a future of clean energy from solar panels and wind turbines, Republicans are about a present of coal and oil. "Bush, baby, bush," Trump shouted on one occasion, ignoring the second most dangerous disaster hanging over humanity today - climate change caused precisely by the "Bush, baby, bush" policy.
What will Trump's victory mean for Macedonia? That question cannot be answered if the focus is placed only on our country. Why? Because we are too small and unimportant. Her focus is on relations with the EU, Russia, China and other major players on the international scene. The relations with Macedonia will also depend on how the relations with them will change in general, and with the EU in particular. And the world is in dramatic change at the "end of the American era," as American realists say. So it will be worse for us. It will be worse for us because we will no longer have the carefully nurtured multilateralism of the democrats and their "missionary" role to make us look like them through a democratic transformation of our political system and our authoritarian behavior. "America first" means "everyone for himself", so distancing from Europe also means distancing from Macedonia and the Balkans. One thing is certain: Trump will insist on a "clean bill" with the EU regarding European security, which could even lead to the withdrawal of the United States from NATO. Where then are we in the new security arrangements to be negotiated on the European continent? In the waiting room.
The unpredictable Trump said many things in the campaign, so it is difficult to predict what will really happen with the war in Ukraine, which is a terrible threat to world peace. He said that he would end the war in one day and before the inauguration, but he also threatened Putin that he would hit him directly in that "damned Moscow" if he had to. The principle of the Democrats "One for all, all for one" will be replaced by that of the Republicans "Every for himself". Let the small countries think about it in such a world.
