Former US President Donald Trump has announced that he will appear in court today at the start of a civil fraud trial in which he will face what he claims is a "false accusation" that he fraudulently overestimated the value of his real estate and other assets.

- I am going to court in the morning to fight for my name and reputation, Trump wrote on his social network "Truth".

New York State Judge Arthur Engoron ruled last week that Trump and his family firm fraudulently inflated the value of his real estate and other assets to further his business needs, which Trump and his associates have denied.

According to Trump, the value of his property was estimated at 18 million dollars, and in fact, as he claims, it is worth 50 to 100 times more.

Prosecutor James asked for a fine of at least $250 million, a ban on Trump and his sons Donald Jr. and Eric from doing business in New York and a five-year ban on commercial use of real estate owned by Trump and his companies.
