We live in a time when we unfortunately live half our lives on social networks. If someone told you they would pay you $ 1.800 if you survived six years without social media, would you succeed? The teenager Sivert Clefsas succeeded in this challenge, reports "CNN".

"I thought it was wonderful… I thought: Ah, what are 6 years?" Said Sivert.

In 2016, Lorna Goldstrand Clefsas challenged her 12-year-old son Sivert to stay out of social media until he was 18 years old. She promised him that if he finished the challenge, he would "honor" him on his eighteenth birthday.

On February 19, 2022, Sivert claimed his prize. Lorna was inspired by a challenge she heard on the radio called "16 for 16", where a mother promised her daughter that she would give her $ 1.600 when she turned
16 years if he endures not using social networks.

Sivert says it was not too difficult to live without social media and that he did not think much about it for six years. When he was 12, Sivert said he did not use social media much anyway. The only application he had before the bet with his mother was Snapshot, which he soon deleted.

"I would not say there was ever a time when I wanted to give up," he said. "As time went on, it became more about pride.

His friends kept him informed of the latest developments or trends.

"I had to avoid all the unnecessary drama on social media," Sivert added.

Lorna says she never had to check if he kept his promise.

"He wants to compete so much, it was definitely more about proving he could," she said.

Now at $ 1.800 richer, Sivert told CNN he did not yet know what he would buy but it would probably be something for his student room at Northwestern St. Paul University.
