Serious accident in Egypt, 22 dead, 33 injured

At least 22 people died and 33 were injured today in a traffic accident near the southern Egyptian province of Minya, the authorities said.

The accident happened this morning when a passenger bus hit a stopped truck on the highway that connects the capital Cairo with the southern part of the country.

Authorities said in a statement that the truck was changing tires on the road when the bus crashed into it in the town of Malawi in Minya province, about 220 kilometers south of Cairo.

The ambulance from the scene hospitalized the injured.

Traffic accidents kill thousands of people in Egypt every year. Accidents are mainly caused by bad roads or poor enforcement of traffic laws.
