German-Polish border tension: Armed neo-Nazis try to prevent migrants from entering
German police say they have stopped more than 50 right-wingers armed with tear gas, machetes and batons who wanted to patrol along the Polish border to prevent migrants from entering the country.
The gunmen followed a call from the Third Way, an extreme right-wing party suspected of being linked to neo-Nazi groups, and sent their members to stop illegal crossings near the town of Guben on the German-Polish border.
Police seized weapons from 50 suspects and forced them to leave the area late last night, a police spokesman said.
Some of the suspects came to the Polish border from different parts of Germany. Dozens of people gathered in Guben yesterday to oppose the planned right-wing patrols.

Additional police forces
Germany has deployed an additional 800 police officers at the Polish border to control the flow of migrants trying to enter the EU from Belarus, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said. He is ready to increase that number, "if necessary", transmits Bild.
He added that last year there were 6.162 unauthorized entrances to Germany from Belarus and Poland. Seehofer said last week that Germany had no intention of closing its border with Poland, but said on Sunday that the country might need to consider regaining control.
"If the situation on the German-Polish border does not calm down, we will have to consider whether this step should be taken in coordination with Poland and the state of Brandenburg." "That decision will depend on the new government."
