In the tense north of Kosovo, new elections are mentioned as one of the solutions

In Zvecan and Leposavic in the north of Kosovo, the presence of KFOR forces has noticeably increased since this morning, and according to reports from the field, they are equipped with means used to break up demonstrations.

On Friday, there was an escalation of violence in the north of Kosovo, and shock bombs and tear gas were thrown in Zvecan, Leposavic and Zubin Potok. It all started after the sirens sounded, and citizens appeared next to the buildings of the local municipalities. The police intervened to allow the newly elected mayors to enter those buildings.

Kosovo flags are hung on the buildings of the municipalities of Leposavic and Zubin Potok. A dozen people were injured in the clashes on Friday.

The American ambassador in Pristina, Jeffrey Hovenier, immediately after the meeting with the two mayors, went to the Presidency building where he met with the President Vjosa Osmani.

It is not yet known what was discussed, but as one of the options for getting out of this situation, the calling of new elections in the north of Kosovo is mentioned, Serbian and Kosovo media report.

The mayors are still in the IC building, and the mayors of Zvečani and Zubina Potok were also present at the meeting with the US and EU ambassadors, and it is not known why the mayors of Severna Mitrovica and Leposavic did not attend.
