Taravari: Of course it is dangerous that a non-graduate student was in the operating room for specialization, but that is now the work of the Prosecutor's Office
The Minister of Health, Arben Taravari, commented today on the situation in Gevgelija, which was reported by "Sloboden Pechat", where a doctor first specialized in anesthesiology, then graduated. For Taravari, it is dangerous for an unqualified doctor to be present in the operating rooms of specialization for years.
Of course it is dangerous. It is no longer the job of the Ministry of Health. It is already the job of the Prosecutor's Office to take certain measures to punish and prevent such cases from repeating. We will proceed with the standard procedure. Everyone who is employed, it is the obligation of the institution to ask for all the necessary documents and for them to be original, naturally, Taravari said.
He believes that the checks that are done now in public health institutions during employment are sufficient.
There is always a check. In order to hire a doctor and when you hire, you require a license for a passed state exam, a certificate of completion of university. It is always possible for someone to falsify it, not only in our country but also in many more developed countries it was discovered that a professional actually had a forged diploma or license. So, of course, the control will continue, but there is also control during employment. It is standard procedure to hire a doctor or any medical staff working in health facilities, the health minister said.
Today, the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Gevgelija has established a case after a tip-off and is taking actions for checks and securing evidence, the Public Prosecutor's Office told "Sloboden Pechat".
As we have already announced, it is a case where Dr. A.A. since 2016, she was accepted to work in the hospital in Gevgelija without a license from the medical chamber and without a completed medical faculty. Immediately after employment at the Gevgelija hospital, the Management Board approved her state specialization in anesthesiology and intensive care.
The whole scandal came to light after the doctor A.A. she receives her first and only valid MD license in April 2024, and her anesthesiology specialist certification in July 2024. Anyone who saw that there was only a three-month difference between the two dates realized that she first "specialized" and then graduated, which is illegal and entails a series of consequences for patients as well. Her specialization has been revoked, but her presence in the operating rooms in the past years is an indisputable fact!
The reason is that the specialization includes practical work in the operating rooms of several clinics. Sources for "Sloboden Pechat" say that A.A. she was in the delivery room in Chair, in the Gevgelija hospital itself, and when you see the specialization program it is clear that she had to be in intensive care and in other hospitals in Skopje as part of her education.
