From August 24, measures will be introduced to limit the use of water in London, the largest water company in Great Britain, "Thames Water", announced today.

Almost 15 million people in the capital and the Oxford area in the west have been banned from watering their gardens, filling small and large swimming pools, washing cars, windows and yards with hoses, the company said.

For the first time in 10 years, such measures to limit water use have hit London, where drought in recent months has turned parks into dry places.

Several water companies have already announced similar bans, mainly in the south of the country, but also in Yorkshire.

In the case of repeated disobedience of the ban, the violators are threatened with criminal prosecution, and a warning is issued only once.
