British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak today fired the president of his ruling Conservative Party due to a "serious violation" of the ministerial code.

Pressure on Nadim Zahavi has been mounting over allegations that he settled several million dollars in unpaid taxes while he was in charge of the state treasury.

In the letter to Zahavi, Sunak states that he was forced to react because at the beginning of his term he promised that his government would be a government of "integrity, professionalism and responsibility at every level".

Zahavi did not comment on the prime minister's decision.

The media reported that Zahavi had settled a debt of almost five million pounds.
