A collision between two cargo ships in the Aegean Sea – flagged by Vanuatu and Singapore – in the sea area located 9 nautical miles north-northwest of Chios, happened earlier on Friday at noon, Greek media reported.

According to information, the Vanuatu-flagged cargo ship named ANT has 13 crew members and the other cargo ship named Potentia has 19 crew members.

The vessel ANT was sailing from Alexandria, Egypt and was bound for Ukraine. The other, Potentia, sailed from Smyrna.

The collision occurred in international waters, in the Greek area of responsibility for search and rescue, and the Greek Ministry of Maritime Affairs informed the captains of the ships that the collision occurred in the Greek search and rescue area. Weather conditions in the area are good.

Six coast guard ships, a naval vessel, a navy ship, a Super Puma helicopter and other vessels rushed to the scene of the collision, while Greek forces are reportedly already on board one of the two ships that collided.

Both ships are unladen and in no danger of sinking. No one was injured in the collision, nor did any of the crew members fall into the sea. According to reports, there is no oil leak either.

- It has been noted that Turkish coast guard ships have also arrived in the area, in an attempt to provoke again, following the known tactic to convince the captains that the area belongs to the Turkish jurisdiction for search and rescue, Greek media write.
