The companies are waiting for support from the Government and fulfillment of their requirements to overcome the consequences of the energy crisis. If the energy crisis continues and the economy does not receive the necessary help, there will be a reduction in the number of employees from 30 to 50 percent, warns the Crisis Staff at the Chamber of Commerce of North Macedonia.

The vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce Jelisaveta Georgievska-Joveska emphasized at today's press conference that the situation is difficult and that business expects support. The support expected by the business, as he pointed out, is based on calculations in the companies in order not to reduce production and personnel.

- The situation is difficult and they are looking for support and bridging of the difficulties they are facing. From all the contacts with the companies, it is pointed out that they would not like to restructure their capacities at the beginning of next year, that is, they would not like to reduce what is meant by staff that should produce added value, emphasized the vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce.

On behalf of the Crisis Staff, Georgievska-Joveska said that they should follow the measures as soon as possible, because the companies are waiting for the support from the Government.

– To subsidize the price of electricity for industry following the example of neighboring countries, to provide a legal framework for companies to exit existing electricity supply contracts so that companies can enter into contracts with ESM supply, to maximize domestic production of electricity and surpluses to be offered to the industry at production price and to reduce the VAT for electricity from 18 to five percent, said Georgievska-Joveska.

She added that based on the comparative analyses, the companies should receive a certain base price at which the state would cover the costs, and that would create necessary assumptions for some kind of predictability that is the basis of business.

- By surveying over 200 companies, we received an answer that a large part of them from next year if the crisis continues and if they do not have the support, according to their expectations, a 30 to 50 percent reduction in employees will follow, which no one wants, said Georgievska- Joveska.
