The Chamber of Commerce: Without state aid, large companies will shut down because of expensive electricity
The Chamber of Commerce has given the Government a deadline until today, when a session of the Economic Council is scheduled, to adopt concrete measures to help the companies, or else they will start closing their facilities. The Chamber of Commerce warns that electricity bills have increased by 6 times and have brought the economy into a very difficult situation.
The process of laying off workers, reducing production and closing facilities has already begun, but it may escalate in the next two months when contracts for electricity supply for the coming year will be concluded. The Chamber of Commerce emphasizes that all companies from the region and beyond receive help from the state, while Macedonian companies are left to fend for themselves.
Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski says that he understands the difficult situation in which the companies find themselves, but the country still does not have an agreement to supply gas from Serbia, there are no details on whether the country will receive electricity from Bulgaria and Turkey. Although they were announced for the previous week, the Government is still designing the measures to help companies and citizens overcome the energy crisis.
