Dentist warns: Do not brush your teeth after drinking lemon water

Lemon water is often recommended as a healthy drink, and for good reason. Packed with vitamin C and antioxidants, this popular beverage can help you get your day off to a good start, providing increased hydration and a potential metabolism boost.

It's also a great alternative to morning drinks if you usually reach for energy drinks or other options with lots of added sugar. Mirror.

However, dentist Stephanie Dumanian warned that with this drink you can unknowingly damage your teeth. In the Am I Doing It Wrong? podcast, Doumanian explained the risks.

What damages tooth enamel?

“I'm not going to lie, I see a lot of effects on my patients' enamel. When I ask them what happened and if they have acid reflux, they can't understand. Then I ask them if they drink lemon water in the morning, and they say they drink it every morning, then I ask them if they brush their teeth right after, and they say they do," she said and explained what it was all about: " "You're basically rubbing the acid into your teeth."

Fortunately, there are simple steps you can take to protect your enamel without giving up your favorite drink.

Dentist Dumanian's recommendations include brushing your teeth before drinking lemon water, waiting 20-30 minutes after you finish drinking before brushing your teeth, or rinsing your mouth with water to wash away the acid before brushing.

She also suggested letting the drink cool to room temperature before drinking through a tube to keep the acid away from your teeth. She said that this method is also useful when drinking coffee to reduce the possibility of yellowing of the teeth.
