The loss of individual or group teeth contributes to a number of soft and hard tissue disorders in the oral cavity, as well as to dental row disorders.

Namely, in places where one or more teeth are lost, there are changes in the soft tissues such as the tongue and the inner part of the cheeks, which tend to increase their volume in order to fill the empty space. Such tissue growth occurs very slowly and is almost imperceptible so that we can register it when we look in the mirror. The soft tissue changes that occur as a result of tooth loss, we usually become aware of the moment when we put artificial products to compensate for the lost teeth.

In addition to the soft tissues, changes occur in the adjacent teeth of the toothless space. There is a curvature, ie bending of the teeth and disruption of their longitudinal axis along which they most evenly receive and distribute the pressure they suffer when chewing food. In addition, there is elongation of the teeth from the opposite jaw. If the deficiency is in the lateral regions, the chewing of food becomes deficient on the affected side. Insufficiently chewed food, in turn, can easily cause problems with other digestive organs, ranging from mild gastritis to far more serious disorders. The patient, on the other hand, approaches unilateral chewing of food, which may impair the function of the temporomandibular joint. If the lost teeth are in the frontal region, it is easy to conclude that the main defect is of an aesthetic nature. Such an aesthetic deficiency affects both the self-esteem and the social status of the patient.

One of the most common ways to make up for lost teeth is to make dental bridges. Like bridges in construction, dental bridges rely on the ends of pillars, which in this case are the teeth that limit the toothless space. We call those teeth bridge teeth. Those teeth must have a good support device, healthy gums around them and not be shaken. They can be devitalized, have large fillings, but they can also be absolutely healthy. In that case, patients wonder if it is worth squeezing healthy teeth to make a bridge. With a good analysis by the dentist, with a thorough explanation of the benefits, in the sense that everything will be obtained if a bridge is made, sometimes the scraping of healthy teeth is in favor of preserving and improving both dental health and general health. of the organism.
