The statue of the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen painted in the colors of Russia
The statue of the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen, one of the most important landmarks of Denmark, is painted in the colors of the Russian flag, reported "The Guardian".
Last night, the colors of the Russian flag were noticed by passers-by on the rock where the statue of the heroine from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale is placed.
Police in Copenhagen said they attended the scene and security camera footage captured the "vandalism", adding that they were trying to find "clues" in the area. An investigation has been opened into the act, which is considered a sign of support for Russia in the war in Ukraine.
The statue, located in the relatively hidden harbor of Langelinie in Copenhagen, has been vandalized many times. The mermaid's head was stolen in 1964 and her arm was cut off in 1984. In 1998, vandals removed her head again, but it was later returned, before the statue was blown up in 2003.
