Nicholas Sturgeon, Scotland's first minister, said there would be no new independence referendum until the covid-19 pandemic was brought under control. Earlier, she promised that a new independence referendum would be held by the end of 2023.

- This is not just about voter safety. "But as the country faces a big, important decision for the future, it needs to be able to make that decision," Sturgeon told Sunday Times.

Sturgeon notes that health care costs put enormous pressure on health care providers and that this is not a good basis for deciding on a new future.

Despite the fact that a new wave of coyote is intensifying in the country, Sturgeon said that at the moment there is no plan for a new lock during the winter. She added that "every responsible leader should keep his options open and not rule out anything."
