Serbian trade unionists demand withdrawal of the draft law on employment of foreigners

The Union of Independent Trade Unions of Serbia and the United Branch Trade Unions "Nezavisnost" warn the state that, as they point out, foreign workers are being brought into the country more often because of their greed for profit. With this, they add, the policy of low wages continues, which in turn leads to the further destruction of the rights of domestic workers and the continuation of the emigration of young people from the country.

- Considering that our amendments to the Draft Law on Employment of Foreigners were not accepted, we request that that proposal be withdrawn from the parliamentary procedure. In this way, the rights of the domestic workforce will be protected - it is stated in the joint announcement of the representative unions. The Government of Serbia recently proposed to the Parliament of Serbia to adopt amendments to the Law on Employment of Foreigners. The trade unionists point out that in this case the legal procedure was not properly followed, because there was no public discussion, and the social partners did not participate in the drafting of the law. The Sindilal people say that due to the new legal solutions offered in the law on employment of foreigners in Serbia, the domestic labor force can be endangered if the processes are not properly followed. - It is necessary for the Government to have a clear strategy, for the competent services to do their work, so that we do not replace domestic workers with foreign ones and that there is no reduction in average wages in certain activities, reports Politika.
