Serbian political scientist Gogic: The recipe for Palestine and Ukraine to exchange territories can be tested in Kosovo
The Balkans will be low on the list of priorities of the Donald Trump administration, given its focus on China, the Middle East and Ukraine, noted Serbian political scientist Ognjen Gogic said, but he warned that Kosovo could set a precedent if solutions are not found. world conflicts, they announced the Kosovo media.
He presented that the first appointments in the new US administration indicate that they are "hawks" who will deal with China, the Middle East and support for Israel.
"There is Ukraine, of course, and Trump is known as someone who is personally sympathetic to Vladimir Putin, has a pragmatic attitude to that conflict and believes that it should end as soon as possible with concessions from Kiev," Gogic said.
According to him, we should not expect that there will be support from the Republicans for this.
Gogic recalls that the Balkans did not receive any attention during the campaign and states that there are no indications that it would be high on the agenda even now, because there are more important global issues for America.
As he pointed out, the current administration of Joseph Biden has not done much or dealt with the Western Balkan region since the wars in Ukraine and Gaza started.
"Just as Serbia and Republika Srpska are now looking forward to the arrival of Trump and consider it favorable for them, Sarajevo and Pristina expected more from Biden
He assumes that even Trump will not have any particular interest in dealing with the Balkans, unless our region is connected to some other issue.
"It is already suggested that one of the ways out of the war in Ukraine is to cede territories to Russia," he pointed out and recalled that Trump once had a peace plan for Israel and Palestine, which included certain territorial concessions.
"If we go towards that territorialization of these conflicts, then Kosovo may appear as a precedent on which some peace recipe for Palestine and Ukraine will be tested later," Gogic assesses.
At the same time, he recalls that during Trump's first term, the possibility of exchanging the territories of Serbia and Kosovo was discussed here.
