A Serbian crossfit competitor died while swimming in a lake in Texas

A CrossFit Games competitor has died while competing in a Texas lake swim.

CrossFit CEO Don Fowle said during a news conference that they are "deeply saddened" by the death of one of their athletes at Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth and are working with authorities to investigate the death.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office identified the athlete as 28-year-old Lazar Dukic of Serbia.

A Fort Worth fire official said they were called around 8 a.m. and the athlete's body was found about an hour later.

Fowle said the CrossFit community is like a family.

"We are doing everything in our power during this tragic time to support the family, to support our community," Fowle said.

The mission of the CrossFit Games, first held in 2007, is to "find the strongest athletes in the world," according to the CrossFit website.

The games are said to change every year and often details are not released before the event itself.

Dukić's biography on the website states that he was the third-ranked athlete in this discipline in Serbia and the 88th-ranked athlete worldwide.
