A Serbian judoka has been suspended for five months for crossing himself at the Olympic Games in Paris
The Serbian judoka Nemanja Majdoc came into the limelight due to the decision to suspend him for five months for crossing himself before fighting at the Olympic Games.
Such a decision caused violent reactions, and Majdov published the email on social networks that reached the address of the Judo Union of Serbia.
"Dear Mr. Majdov, during the fifth day of the Olympic Games in Paris on July 31, 2024, you showed a clear religious sign when you entered the arena for the match with Mr. Theodores Tselidis (Greece) in the round of 90 in the category up to XNUMX kilograms. The rulebook of the World Judo Federation shows that there is a basis for punishment because no object or religious movement may be shown before, during or at the end of the fight," reads the letter to Majdov.
However, this happened at the Olympic Games where we witnessed many athletes from different countries publicly expressing religious messages. We also saw the crucifixion of his countryman, Novak Djokovic, after winning the gold.
According to such a situation, it seems that the Judo Federation was the only one that implemented its rules during the Olympic Games, which is why Majdov was punished.
