Serbia will soon launch its first satellite into space
Serbia is preparing to send its first satellite into orbit, joining the group of 106 countries that already have space programs.
In addition to observing the Sun in the X-ray range, which is impossible from Earth, the satellite named "Mosaic" will andthere are still several missions, including telecommunications.
According to the Serbian media, the first Serbian satellite "Mozaik" should be launched into space next year, with the idea of staying in orbit between two and three years.
"The first Serbian scientific satellite has several goals and missions. The first objective, the mission objective, is to observe the Sun in the X-ray domain. The second goal is to photograph planet Earth. So the satellite will have more sensors, more precisely two cameras, one will be directed to the Earth - it will record the surface of the earth, it will not be in ultra high resolution, we cannot compare them with Google, but the good thing is that we can get from them when we want, not when you pay or when you send a request, but only our satellite flies over our country once a day and we can take data from that satellite", points out Milan Stojanović from the Belgrade Astronomical Observatory.
Professors and doctors from the Faculty of Mathematics and Electrical Engineering and the Institute of Physics are also involved in the project to launch the "Mosaic" satellite, whose communication system was built by the "Mihailo Pupin" Institute.
"One of the main goals of the mission is to learn how to build a satellite from start to finish, from procuring the components that go on the satellite, integrating them, assembling and putting what you've seen on the model, testing it to sending it into orbit." , says Stojanovic.
The Serbian scientific satellite will spend about two and a half years in orbit, after which it will burn up completely upon re-entry into the atmosphere – this means that after the mission is over, it will not pose a problem as space debris.
