Spasovski, Lamorgeze sign memorandum on co-operation in combating drug trafficking

Today in Rome, the Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski met with the Italian Minister of Interior, Lucana Lamorgeze, at which a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed in the field of combating drug trafficking between the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Interior of the Italian Republic and the Bureau. for Public Security at the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Northern Macedonia.

As the Ministry of Interior announced, at the meeting with the Italian delegation, Spasovski stressed that such meetings are a good opportunity to deepen mutual cooperation, which is vital for increasing efficiency in the fight against the global enemy - crime in all its forms.

- In that context, I would like to emphasize that the cooperation between our ministries is at a high professional level, which means fast, quality and efficient exchange of operational knowledge and is in continuous continuity, in line with the spirit of traditional friendly relations between our two countries. It is the joint activities related to the fight against current security challenges and trends that represent progress in the realization of international cooperation, and the increased exchange of information is the best proof of our readiness to make the security environment favorable, and thus accelerate progress in European integration. said Spasovski.

The Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of combating drug trafficking was also signed at the meeting by the Director of the Public Security Bureau at the Ministry of Interior, Sasho Tasevski, and the Chief of Police and Director General for Public Security at the Italian Ministry of Interior, Lamberto Giannini.

- Today we are witnessing another successfully completed project - signing a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of combating drug trafficking. I want to emphasize that this document, which will be signed today by the directors of the two police services, is crucial for both Ministries, especially in terms of the fight against drug trafficking - a global challenge to which we are obliged to respond with all available means. and resources, said Spasovski after the signing of the Memorandum.

In his address to the Italian delegation, Spasovski stressed the need to tackle illegal migration, emphasizing the fact that effective border management, migration and the prevention of illegal migration along the "Western Balkan route".

He said that this is still one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Interior, and among the other topics discussed at the meeting, he emphasized the joint project activities implemented within the Ministry as part of cooperation with Italy, including the project Strengthening coordination capacities in the prevention of violent extremism and the fight against terrorism with the main aim of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of national authorities for border control, migration management, the fight against terrorism and organized crime, by improving technical and administrative detection capacities; investigation and prevention of terrorism, and initiated the launch of a new project between the two ministries, ie the conclusion of a Protocol for cooperation in the field of combating trafficking in human beings.

- On this occasion I would like to thank the support in the projects, but also the Ministry of Interior of Italy in the realization of the recent Regional Conference of Directors of Police Services which was attended by a high delegation from your Ministry. As a Ministry, we remain committed to the development and support of bilateral cooperation, participation in international and regional initiatives, which aim to strengthen our capacities and improve police work in all areas, concluded Spasovski.

Lamorgeze congratulated Minister Spasovski on giving Northern Macedonia the opportunity to host the 50th jubilee Interpol European Region Conference in 2023, which is another confirmation of the police reforms and the successful joint cooperation, but also of the stability and country security.

- With today's signing of the Memorandum, we complete an important segment of our cooperation so far in the field of information exchange and this is a very important day for the two ministries, which confirms our friendship and partnership. "You have our full support in the good practices and training of police officers in the area of ​​rule of law as well as in the area of ​​organized crime and terrorism," said Minister Lamorgeze.

On this occasion, Lamorjese accepted the proposal of Minister Spasovski in the coming period to submit a draft text of the Protocol on Cooperation in Trafficking in Human Beings and Begging and reiterated that we have the full support of their services both operationally and technically immediately. to start negotiations on both sides and to harmonize the text that would be signed at the next joint meeting in Skopje, emphasizing once again the importance of the country and other Balkan countries for the stability of European countries and the region.
