The Council of the European Union extended the mandate of the EU special representative for dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, Miroslav Lajcak, until January next year.

As Radio Free Europe reported, the decision was made at the meeting of the ambassadors of the EU member states held on July 4.

The extension of Lajcak's mandate comes at the request of the EU's high representative for foreign policy and security, Josep Borrell.

The successor of Lajčak will be decided by Borel's successor, and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kalas has been proposed for that position.

To confirm her position, the consent of the European Parliament is needed, which votes on the structure of the new European Commission
