During yesterday den a sample of a suspected case of monkeypox was submitted to the Institute of Public Health for testing. The patient is from Kichevo and he got a rash on his body a few days ago, which is one of the symptoms of monkeypox.

The Infectious Diseases Commission, which held a meeting yesterday afternoon, recommended the introduction of isolation in home or hospital conditions for all suspected and confirmed cases and daily epidemiological monitoring of persons who had contact with confirmed cases.

- The Commission on Infectious Diseases recommended the introduction of isolation/quarantine measures and isolation in home or hospital conditions of suspected monkeypox cases until they are tested, isolation of confirmed cases in home or hospital conditions until the end of the disease or healing of the scabies, daily epidemiological monitoring of contacts of confirmed monkeypox cases during the incubation period of 21 denKZB announced.

The commission also reaffirmed the recommendation to the Ministry of Health that ce take all necessary preventive measures.

The President of the Commission for Infectious Diseases, Aleksandar Petlichkovski, announced that the patient from Kichevo is in good health and does not need hospitalization.

At the Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Skopje, as the Ministry of Health informed yesterday, there is no hospitalized patient suspected of monkeypox.

Petlichkovski does not expect this disease to become a problem like the coronavirus. According to him, there are tests for monkeypox in the country, and the European Medicines Agency already has an approved vaccine, but mass vaccination is not planned.

– The expansion is not going as fast as we initially feared, probably burned by the corona. Transmission is taking place in certain groups. Vaccines are recommended worldwide for at-risk groups, with at-risk contacts. Mass immunization is not foreseen anywhere at the moment, said the president of the Commission for Infectious Diseases.

A total of 9 cases of monkeypox were registered worldwide until August 31.800. In Europe, the highest number of cases is in Spain – 5, Germany – 162 and Great Britain – 2.

Cases of monkeypox have also been confirmed in the region, but not in large numbers. There are 41 cases in Greece, Slovenia – 40, Serbia – 23, Croatia 12, Bulgaria – 4, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro have one case each, while in Albania there are no registered cases of monkeypox.
