The Assembly of the SOC today approved the canonical unity of the SOC with the MOC-OA, Serbian media write.

Thus, the dispute, which dates back to 1967, is finally resolved.

The announcement of the SOC says:

"After receiving the act of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Macedonian Orthodox Church - Ohrid Archbishopric, which accepts the generally recognized canonical status, granted in 1959 by the Holy Synod of Bishops of the SOC, and expresses hope that the Serbian Orthodox Church will resolve the status, to follow the pan-Orthodox consent and acceptance of that status, decided the Holy Synod of Bishops:

- With gratitude to the Lord and with joy, the Assembly welcomes the acceptance of the generally recognized canonical status, which is the status of the widest possible autonomy, ie full internal independence, granted in 1959;

- because it removes the reasons for the termination of the liturgical and canonical communion, caused by the unilateral proclamation of autocephaly in 1967, a complete liturgical and canonical community is established;

MOC-OA does not plan to hold a joint holy hierarchical liturgy with the SOC
