Sending tanks to Ukraine does not solve the conflict, Erdogan believes
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the delivery of tanks to Ukraine will not bring a solution to the conflict.
"I can't say that I believe that sending tanks is a step towards solving the Ukrainian crisis," Erdogan told Turkish television station TRT.
He indicated that he expects Western countries to support Ankara's calls for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, reports TASH.
Erdoğan assessed that the arming of Ukraine is a "risky step" that brings profit to arms dealers.
Last week, the US pledged to send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, while Germany confirmed it would transfer 14 Leopard 2 tanks to the country.
Norway, Slovakia, Great Britain, Poland and France have also pledged to provide Western-made tanks to Ukraine.
Kyiv expects that in the first round it will receive up to 140 tanks from 12 countries.
