We have lost 2.000 doctors in ten years
Professor doctor Goran Dimitrov, president of the Macedonian Medical Association, warns that the outflow of doctors leaving Macedonia is very large. According to him, looking back ten years ago, Macedonia had 2.000 more doctors than it has today.
"If 10 years ago we had 7.400 doctors in the Macedonian medical association, today we have 5.400," said Dimitrov at the tribune in the European House in Skopje. February 4 marks the World Cancer Day and the European House in Skopje organized a panel discussion on "Access to treatment and early detection services".
Dr. Dimitrov said that cervical cancer is one of those cancers whose number, unfortunately, is not decreasing even though it is one of the most preventable diseases.
"I often point out, when I speak on behalf of the Macedonian Medical Association, that the whole arrangement of the health system, which carries a burden from the past and the slight stagnation in the introduction of new forms of cancer prevention, have led to the fact that in the last ten years we are somewhere and not very bad, but we are in the middle of geographical Europe", said prof. Dr. Dimitrov.
The panel discussion is a continuation of the successful series of debates on healthcare topics realized with the support of the wife of the president, Elizabeta Gjorgievska and the EU ambassador David Geer in cooperation with the Club of Young Doctors.
