The Official Government of Greece will take a solemn oath

The ministers from the official and temporary Government of Greece will take a solemn oath today in the Presidential Palace in Athens, which will be followed by the reception and handing over of the functions in the Ministries, reported the correspondent of MIA from Athens.

The new government, which has a mandate of one month and will have to lead Greece to elections on June 25, has 20 ministers, and the president of the Court of Auditors, Ioannis Sarmas, became the prime minister.

Honorary Ambassador Vassilis Kaskarelis, who is a former Permanent Representative of Greece to the UN, NATO, as well as to the EU, but also a former ambassador to the USA, will be the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece.

The former Deputy Minister of Defense Alkiviadis Stefanis is returning to the same Ministry, but this time as Minister of Defense, and the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Greece, Theodoros Pelagidis, is coming to the Ministry of Finance.

The journalist from the state television ERT Ilias Siakandaris is the new government spokesman.

Interim President of the Greek Government, Ioannis Sarmas, took a solemn oath yesterday, after which he met with the now former Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, thus officially taking office.

Mitsotakis handed him extensive material with, as he said, key and useful data related to the work of the Government and the function of the state.

- I would like to take this opportunity to hand over to you a fairly large envelope that includes a series of data that I believe will be useful to you, such as a summary presentation of the functions and results of the presidency of the Government, the implemented government policy plan for 2023, detailed a note on the country's international obligations, as well as the critical operational dates of the next quarter as well as the annual action plans of the ministries, Mitsotakis explained.

The interim Prime Minister of Greece emphasized that his Government has the authority to implement the laws until the holding of the new elections.

- This Government will be an official government, which of course will have all the powers, but only the powers to implement the law until the one who will emerge from the will of the people returns here, in the Prime Minister's Palace. The interim prime minister, supreme judge, knows very well that it is only for organizing the elections and for continuing the functioning of the executive function of the state, without interruption, Sarmas pointed out.

After Sunday's elections, none of the parties secured the necessary parliamentary majority to form a Government, and after all the constitutional provisions were exhausted, an official Government was formed with one and only goal, to lead Greece to new elections scheduled for June 25.
